Woven Symbols is an evolving series exploring the relationship between mark-making, memory and cultural language.
Working across cotton and linen, I combine painted forms with hand embroidery, creating layered compositions that sit between drawing, textile and asemic writing. The symbols are inspired by African visual languages, particularly the rhythmic forms and abstract gestures found within traditional systems of communication, pattern and ornament.
